Curriculum Vitae
Melissa is a passionate nature enthusiast and outdoor educator. Hiking, climbing, foraging, and natural waters are just a few favorites! She is the proud parent of an incredible four year old and a frisbee catching cattle dog.
When asked about her future in the health and medical field she says, “I’m currently interested in the interdisciplinary study of Regional Ecology and Ethnobotany; Expanding Western colonization has created an interconnected ecological crises of both the depletion of human digestive microbiome and the depletion of environmental macrobiome; caused by unsustainable agriculture practices and food production. I believe utilizing regional botanicals as food medicine is the missing link. Indigenous communities hold an ancient and deep connection with the land and its medicine. All over the world these communities are bringing life back to lands left wasted by modern agriculture. With great respect, if we can listen and learn from Indigenous knowledge holders, we can heal this crisis.
